Occupation on Enlistment - Miner in Australia - Won Military Medel as Sergeant on 29th September 1917 at Messines - His citation told how whilst in charge of a party repairing roads, following the infantry’s advance, he went forward on three occasions, despite coming under heavy fire, to make a reconnaissance of the area for which his unit was responsible. “His coolness and courage were a great example to the men and inspired to no small degree”.
